Stay Calm & Love Your Club!

It's time of the year when many clubs enter into the world of soccer transfers and start thinking about their major signings. It seems that no player is spared from the transfer world, and not forgetting coaches and management staff too.

It's also during this period when many supporters follow the rumour mill which is spinning like crazy with rumours right, left and center and play the guessing game ~ who is going and who is staying.

With the start of the next season slowly approaching the rumours and speculations about which player could be making a move grows with each passing day. In recent weeks the rumour mill has heated up so much that it can be a bit hard to keep up with.

Many supporters may feel sad when their fave players leave or move on to another club, this, I do feel  the same and it kinda breaks my heart. But as much as I am sad and disappointed, I can only hope for their success and for them to achieve what they wanted to achieve.

Those were the sad part, and fortunately enough, when you lose someone, you’ll gain someone.

Quoted from an old-time supporter: "It happens in football.. we have to face it." How true.

So who dance to whose tune? ~ let's just wait for the official news. No matter what happens, stay calm and continue to love and support your local club!

To all who are leaving, thank you. You’ll be missed, but not forgotten. To the new ones, welcome! And all the best to all of you and the games to come.

Tampines Interested In Salim

Tampines Rovers chairman Teo Hock Seng has confirmed that the Stags are wooing Woodlands Wellington coach Salim Moin.

"We want to recruit Salim for 2014...but we don't know if his club want to release him," he said, while addressing guests at the Stags' annual dinner at Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore on Thursday night.

Salim led underachievers Woodlands to fifth spot in the S-League this season, surprising the football fraternity here. Stags' coach Tay Peng Kee is poised to step away from the touchline and return to his general manager position in the club next year.

On a night Teo celebrated his 43rd wedding anniversary, he also issued a war cry - for his players to play more aggressive, attacking football in the years ahead.

Red-hot Rams Job

One name is etched in local football history, after DPMM FC became the first foreign side to a lift trophy on Singapore soil in 2009.

Another guided Woodlands Wellington to their only piece of silverware since the inception of the S-League in 1996.

The final person is a former Singapore international who captained the Rams just three years ago.

All three - former DPMM coach Vjeran Simunic; Jorg Steinebrunner, who led Woodlands to the inaugural League Cup in 2007, and Geylang International assistant coach Noor Ali - are all keen on leading the Rams next season.

The football fraternity is abuzz with talk that Salim Moin will leave Woodlands to take over as coach of Tampines Rovers.

While Woodlands have yet to confirm the vacancy, applications for the position of Rams' head coach are already flying in.

"Every year at this time, we receive several resumes from coaches, but until the day that Salim confirms that he is leaving, there is no vacancy at the club," said Rams' manager Matthew Tay Tuesday.

Sources close to the club confirmed that Salim and his assistant Clement Teo have already met the management, and while the outcome of that meeting remains unclear, all signs point to Salim joining reigning three-time S-League champions Tampines ahead of the 2014 season.

The club confirmed receiving the applications of Simunic and Noor, and a source has told The New Paper that Steinebrunner has also thrown his hat into the ring.

With Salim, former Singapore international, pulling the strings, perennial strugglers Woodlands stunned the football fraternity by finishing fifth in the Great Eastern-Yeo's S-League this year without any established stars in the team.

While he is proud of the achievements of the Brunei side in his time in the S-League, Simunic would love the opportunity to guide a local team.

"In 2009 we came into the S-League with a bunch of part-time local players, but stood shoulder to shoulder with big teams like Home United and Tampines," said the Croat, whose contract at DPMM runs out at the end of the month.

He will be replaced by former Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean.

Simunic won the League Cup with DPMM in their first year in Singapore in 2009 and the club were in the hunt for the S-League title until the final few weeks, before Fifa banned them from completing the season due to issues with its parent Football Association.

Simunic repeated the League Cup win following DPMM's return to domestic football last year.
"I think can do something in the S-League - and it will be even better to achieve something with a local team," he said.
"Personally, I am still hungry. And I'm keen to join Woodlands."

Noor, whose contract with Geylang runs out at the end of the year, is also hungry for the Woodlands job.

"Even though it's not certain that Salim will join Tampines, the current state of Woodlands is a great challenge for any coach, and I wanted to make my interest known early," he said.

"They've done brilliantly this season, proving that big names and big budgets are not the only way to ensure success in football.

"Salim's will be a hard act to follow, but the opportunity to try to take the team further forward is one that is hard to ignore."

Salim Moin To Coach Tampines Rover

Woodlands Wellington coach Salim Moin has agreed to coach Tampines Rovers next season, The New Paper understands.

Salim, 52, who has coached the Rams for the past two seasons, has verbally agreed terms with the S-League champions, though he has yet to sign any contract.

He will take over from Tay Peng Kee, who said he would be returning to his general manager position soon after the Stags clinched the league title last month.

A source who has knowledge of the switch told TNP: "Salim has a verbal agreement with Tampines to coach them next year.

Assistant coach
"Woodlands assistant coach, Clement Teo, is also set to leave Woodlands, but it is still unclear if he will join Salim at Tampines."

TNP understands that both coaches will meet with the Woodlands management today to reveal their plans.

Woodlands chairman Hussainar Aziz declined comment yesterday, while Salim could not be reached.

Salim, who also coached Balestier Khalsa in 2011, led the Rams to a surprising fifth-place finish this season.

Woodlands were the wooden spoonists the previous three years.

He will be the Stags' fourth coach in four years.

Tay took over the coaching reins from Steven Tan midway through the 2012 season, and again this year when the club dismissed Croat Nenad Bacina.
